Sky Observing Nights with AAAP

Science Under the Stars

May 23

On May 23rd we will have a special extended star talk in the planetarium at 7:45pm. We will discuss what is visible in the night sky that evening, with an extra focus on deep sky objects that are observable with telescopes. After the star talk ends around 8pm, we will caravan for the drive to Washington Crossing State Park where the Amateur Astronomer鈥檚 Association of Princeton has the Simpson Observatory. There, we will use the historic telescopes maintained by the club to view the objects we discussed at the planetarium. For detailed directions to the Simpson Observatory and how to enter the park to access it, go to .

Make sure to dress warmly, as it cools off significantly after sunset!

If weather does not cooperate, the extended star talk will instead be followed by a showing of our new planetarium show, Spark.

Twin Suns & Tatooines - Discussing the Stability & Habitability of Planets Orbiting Two Stars

May 24, 4:15 pm

For decades, scientists have wondered if life could exist on 鈥渃ircumbinary planets鈥 (CBPs), which are planets that orbit around two stars. Although astronomers have discovered thousands of exoplanets, just over a dozen are CBPs. Thus, researchers must utilize another tool to study populations of these planets: computer simulations! Michael will discuss how astrophysicists use simulations to predict which CBP orbits are dynamically stable (that is, if their systems don鈥檛 fly apart!), how their varying temperatures affect habitability, and how we can use this data to find real-life Tatooines.

Small Explorers: Me and My Amazing Body

Small Explorers

June 14, 9:45 am, 11:00 am, and 12:15 pm

Dinosaurs have bones, how about me? We will explore what's under our skin and learn the names of our head, shoulders, knees and toes: and a few other parts. It's Graduation day for our 5 year olds.
