Trenton, N.J. - The Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ-Israel Commission is deeply troubled by reported incidents at Rutgers University-New Brunswick that demonstrate harassment towards Jewish students based on perceived support for Israel. Hate should have no place in Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ or anywhere. While we respect legitimate criticism of Israel, it should never be coopted into antisemtism in which individuals are targeted for their identity. We applaud recent statements by Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway and Rutgers–New Brunswick Chancellor-Provost Francine Conway which rightfully reaffirms the right of all students to live, study, and work in an environment without prejudice or fear.

The Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ-Israel Commission was established in 1989 to implement the goals of the Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ-Israel Sister State Agreement and is under the administration of Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ Department of State. The Commission promotes the development of trade, culture and educational exchanges; encourages the development of capital investment and joint business ventures; and fosters a spirit of cooperation between the citizens of the State of Israel and the Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ.
