The Papers of William Livingston

William Livingston was the first governor of the ﾓ｣ｻｨﾊﾓﾆｵ. He served in the Continental Congress in 1774-1776. He was elected governor by the legislature in 1776 and was reelected each year until his death in 1790. His talent for political leadership enabled him to forge a coalition in support of the patriot cause among diverse and often hostile interests in ﾓ｣ｻｨﾊﾓﾆｵ. The publication of his personal and state papers, annotated by the editors, reveals important aspects of America's Revolutionary heritage and ﾓ｣ｻｨﾊﾓﾆｵ's contributions to it. The Papers are limited to the period of Livingston's career in ﾓ｣ｻｨﾊﾓﾆｵ.
