The IRS has extended deadlines for taxpayers in Lee County, Alabama. Accordingly, taxpayers in Lee County now have until July 31, 2019 to file their ӣƵ tax returns and submit payments for any return, including estimated payments, which have either an original or extended due date between March 3, 2019 and before July 31, 2019.
If the IRS further extends the filing deadline for federal tax purposes, the deadline for ӣƵ returns and payments will also be extended.
When filing a paper return, affected taxpayers must write in black ink “FEMA Major Disaster Declaration – Alabama Storm” at the top, center of their ӣƵ tax return and/or payment when filed.
If you are in Lee County, Alabama and affected by this storm and the due date for filing your return and for paying your tax is postponed by the Division of Taxation, you may be eligible for interest and penalty abatement on underpaid tax that would otherwise accrue for the period of the postponement.
