Laurie Facciarossa Brewer, ӣ����Ƶ’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman, issued the following statement on the appointment of a receiver to manage the day-to-day operations and upkeep of two problematic nursing homes in Deptford and Hammonton:

“This is great news for residents, their loved ones, and the dedicated staff members at both nursing homes. Bringing in a receiver will ensure stability for residents and staff in a time of turmoil around the facilities’ ownership and management.

“I fully support the Office of the State Comptroller’s efforts to demand accountability from nursing home owners and operators who have demonstrated that they cannot be trusted with the vital task of caring for older adults and others who require long-term care in ӣ����Ƶ.

“We invest public dollars through Medicaid to ensure quality care and a better quality of life for residents. When individuals run nursing homes that are ranked at the bottom of the barrel year after year, it seems clear that they are sacrificing residents’ comfort and well-being for additional profits. They should not be able to do business here in ӣ����Ƶ. And they especially should not be funded by our taxpayer dollars.

“At the same time, the residents deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing that they are safe and in a stable living situation. Appointing a receiver advances that cause.”
