Body Discovered Off the Wildwood Coast
Identified As Middle Twp. Police Officer
Middle Township, N.J. – Today the Southern Regional Medical Examiners Office has positively identified the man found off the coast of
Wildwood on Sunday as Middle Township police officer Jason Sill, 39, of Cape May Court House.
The Ó£»¨ÊÓÆµ State Police led the multi-agency search for Sill, whose unoccupied boat was discovered on Monday, August 27, approximately one
mile off the Wildwood coast. The vessel was located by members of the United State Coast Guard and by members of the State Police Atlantic City
Marine Station. Witnesses reported seeing Sill take his boat out from Pier 47 Marina around 9:30 a.m. He was alone and told others that he intended on
fishing in the bay.
On Sunday, September 2, at approximately, 3:00 p.m., the United States Coast Guard was notified by the captain of a vessel, that while traveling
approximately 6 nautical miles off the coast of Wildwood, he observed what appeared to be a deceased body floating. The Coast Guard responded and
recovered the body of the unidentified male. The condition of the body was consistent with a deceased person being exposed to water for a prolonged
period of time and a tattoo was located on the body that matched the tattoo reported to be on Jason Sill.
The Southern Regional Medical Office took custody of the body and transported it to Shore Memorial Hospital where an autopsy was performed this
afternoon. The exam resulted in the positive identification of Jason Sill. The cause and manner of death is undetermined pending further examination.
