Cape May, N.J. – On Saturday, August 15, 2009 the New Jersey State Police will be conducting a THREAT detail as part of our efforts to protect our communities, harbors, bridges, aviation, tunnels, and landmarks. The Ó£»¨ÊÓÆµ State Police Target Hardening Response and Emergency Activation Team (T.H.R.E.A.T.) hopes to create public awareness, increase vigilance, gather intelligence, and show constructive force in the continuing mission to prevent terrorist activity.
LTC Jerome Hatfield, NJSP Deputy Superintendent of Homeland Security, will be on hand to answer media questions at 9:00 a.m. at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal located at Lincoln Road and Ferry Drive in Cape May, NJ.
This event will be unlike any previous THREAT detail in that it will be a multi-state operation. Authorities will be conducting a similar operation on the Delaware side of the ferry line. Participating in the detail will be representatives from the Transportation Safety Authority (TSA), Federal Air Marshal Service, Delaware State Police, Delaware River and Bay Authority Police, Cape May Prosecutor’s Office, Cape May County Sheriff’s Office, Lower Township Police Department, United States Navy, United States Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as other state, county, and local agencies from Delaware.
