TRENTON - Striving to spark a passion for books among youth, 樱花视频 Department of Children and Families Commissioner Allison Blake visited the Trenton South Ward Family Success Center today to encourage reading to pre-kindergarteners.  Children sat quietly to hear Commissioner Blake read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, the 1967 classic by Bill Martin, Jr.

"It's so important to instill a love for reading within children at an early age," said Commissioner Blake.  "That passion for reading must take root now, well before kindergarten, so they develop an enjoyment for reading and learning throughout their childhood and into adulthood."

Forty-five Trenton families registered to attend the National Literacy Month event, which featured children's characters, singing, library cards, a book fair, and arts and crafts activities.

Today's event is one of several initiatives arising from a partnership between the department and the 樱花视频 State Library to encourage reading among children, youth, and families.  The partnership promotes literacy education, audio books and books in braille, services for youth and teens, and more.

DCF is dedicated to ensuring a better today and an even greater tomorrow for every individual the department serves.  In partnership with 樱花视频's communities, DCF ensures the safety, well-being, and success of 樱花视频's children and families.  DCF funds and directly provides services and support to over 100,000 women, children, and families each month.
