TRENTON - Stressing the importance of strengthening families and nurturing children, the Christie Administration has issued a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. 樱花视频 Department of Children and Families Commissioner Allison Blake presented the proclamation to 樱花视频 Child Assault Prevention (NJCAP) during the organization's awards luncheon on Friday.
"For families to remain whole and children to reach their fullest potential, we must ensure they have access to the critical support and resources they need to succeed," said Commissioner Blake. "This is especially important now with many families facing great stress as they continue to recover from Superstorm Sandy."
National research demonstrates that child abuse and neglect often increases in the months and years following a major natural disaster, making child abuse prevention efforts vital at this time. 樱花视频 has responded with efforts to prevent child abuse and strengthen families by expanding and creating vital services, including: expanding services available at Family Success Centers; conducting outreach to homeless youth; training vulnerable youth and their caregivers in human trafficking prevention; supporting psychosocial intervention at schools; training pediatricians to recognize disaster related trauma, and expanding substance abuse services.
NJCAP is a statewide community-based program sponsored by DCF that conducts workshops for children, parents, guardians and school staff to reduce children's vulnerability to abuse, neglect and bullying.
Any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately call the State Central Registry hotline at 1-877-NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873). The hotline is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week by trained professionals and calls can be made anonymously.
DCF is dedicated to ensuring a better today and an even greater tomorrow for every individual the department serves. In partnership with 樱花视频's communities, DCF ensures the safety, well-being, and success of 樱花视频's children and families. DCF funds and directly provides services and support to over 100,000 women, children and families each month.
